BMW i8

The last winter tests for the i8, the registered hybrid coupe BMW. The car could be close to debut. There BMW i8 was presented to the public for the first time at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. At the time it was only the first prototype of a concept car of the German car manufacturer, today it seems that it is not long before the launch, we are talking about 2013 as the debut year.

The spy photos leaked with the test drives in December make us understand that the curves and lines of the car destined for sale do not differ much from those of the first concept car: the general shapes are just those and the overall effect remains sporty and gritty.

The dimensions of theBMW i8 hybrid car they are a true sportswoman: 463 cm long, 196 cm wide and only 128 cm high. The engine used is a small three-cylinder one and a half liter, the same one with which BMW intends to equip the smaller models of its collections, examples being the Mini and the 1 Series.

Despite the engine, the BMW i8 it is confirmed as a sports car also in its propulsion: the system hybrid combines the 223 hp twin-turbo three-cylinder petrol engine with a electric motor which develops a power of 130 hp. The torque is 360 Nm. While the electric motor intervenes on the front, the thermal engine sends the torque to the rear with a transmission managed with a double clutch gearbox.

The batteries are placed in the center of the car and their weight will be abundantly compensated by the lightness of the bodywork: the production materials include carbon and aluminum.

Performance lives up to our expectations. The 2011 concept saw acceleration from zero to 100 km / h in 4.6 seconds. A maximum speed reached of 250 km / h, carbon dioxide emissions that do not exceed 66 grams per kilometer traveled with an average consumption of 2.7 liters per 100 km, this means that on board the BMW i8 it will be possible to travel 37 kilometers with just one liter! The price? There are no indiscretions but we are talking about 180,000 euros.
