Everyone knows that for proper hydration you should drink at least 2 liters of water a day. Yet most people just ingest less than a liter of fluids / day, just 970ml to be precise, with no substantial differences between men and women.
Isn't it by chance that the problem is water, in the sense that it does not 'entice' to be drunk? Let's ask ourselves: if they were available to fill the water needs supplements moisturizers (such as those based on amino acids, we are certainly not talking about sugary drinks) wouldn't it be better?
If we look at the substances with which we hydrate our body, research shows that in the first place there is water (about 650 ml per day) without distinction of sex. Here, among other drinks, the differences between men and women emerge: men take liquids mostly from coffee (75 ml), milk (57 ml), juices (48 ml), sugary drinks ( 45ml per day), cappuccino (44ml) and tea and herbal teas (43ml).
Instead, women do moisturize especially with tea and herbal teas, which take second place after water (78 ml), followed by coffee (62 ml), milk (61 ml), fruit juices and sugary drinks (40 and 42 ml respectively). The consumption of drinks with low calorie sweeteners is very low (better this way) among both men and women, with 10 and 12 ml / day respectively.
The fact remains that overall we drink little and are at risk dehydration. Most at risk are children and the elderly, who should be encouraged to get adequate fluid intake. Children are at risk of dehydration greater than in adults due to various factors, including renal and skin immaturity, the inability to express thirst and greater susceptibility to diarrhea and vomiting.
It is likely that in the future the moisturizing drinks based on amino acids they will play an important part in people's diets, especially the elderly and children. During the conference Planet Nutrition & Integration which took place in Parma on 18-19 May, Professor Enzo Nisoli, President of the Italian Obesity Society and professor of Pharmacology at the University of Milan, stated that: “Important results suggest that dietary supplementation with specific amino acid mixtures is able to favor the recovery of the state of health in all situations characterized by energy deficiency ".
