Natural pesticides: wormwood and propolis

Summer is the season in which leaves and holes of absinthe to prepare macerate, infusion and decoction that can be used on flowers and plants such as natural pesticides. It is also the best season for propolis, the product that bees obtain by elaborating resinous, rubbery and waxy substances that cover the floral buds, the vegetative apexes and parts of the bark of numerous plants. With the propolis bees sprinkle the hive, using it to plug the cracks and protect it from foreign bodies. We can use it as natural pesticide.

L'absinthe is a perennial herb (Artemisia absinthium) that contains essential oils that repel insects, mites, butterfly larvae, ants and snails. To prepare the macerated with absinthe the leaves and flowers harvested in summer are used, in the proportion of 300 grams of fresh plant per 10 liters of water, placed to macerate in a container for about 7 days. Once the macerate is ready, it is filtered and sprayed directly on the plants against aphids and ants. The macerate of absinthe it can be used in the spring period, distributing it in this case on the ground as natural pesticide.

L'infusion of absinthe instead it is prepared by pouring boiling water on the dry or fresh plant and leaving it to infuse for 24 hours. The decoction of absinthe, which is the third possible preparation ofabsinthe as natural pesticide it is prepared by simmering theabsinthe slowly for about 30 minutes (in the same proportions already indicated for the macerate). Infusion and decoction of wormwood can be sprinkled directly on plants infested with mites.

Propolis is an antibiotic, pesticide and antifungal natural which in nature is effective against many harmful insects, especially against aphids. There propolis of greater efficacy for the defense of plants is, as mentioned, the one harvested in the summer, because it is richer in antibiotic substances. It can be used as an aqueous solution, as an alcoholic solution or as a hydroalcoholic solution.

There aqueous solution of propolis it is prepared in doses of 100 grams of propolis, 1 liter of water, 1 gram of soy lecithin. There propolis it should be pulverized with a coffee grinder (to facilitate the operation it is advisable to keep it in the freezer for 10-20 minutes) for it to harden. At this point the powder is put in water, adding the soy lecithin which acts as an emulsifier (alternatively, egg white can be used).

There alcohol solution or tincture of propolis it is prepared using the same procedure for the aqueous solution by putting alcohol in place of water. There hydro-alcoholic solution of propolis it is obtained by mixing the aqueous solution in equal parts with the alcoholic solution. For large applications the preparation can be further diluted.
