Planet Neptune

When it comes to Neptune we often think of the god of the sea but Neptune is also the name of a planet, certainly not one of the most famous but which hides interesting characteristics. Why not go and find out. An expedition is not necessary, there are those who have made it for us, to tell us how the planet Neptune, how it turns and moves. This is astronomy, then there is astrology that deals with something else, with interpreting the meanings of this celestial body by associating it with one or the other character sphere.

Planet Neptune: characteristics

The planet Neptune it is one of those who keep away from the Sun, to say it is enough to see that it orbits around it at a distance that is 30 times greater than that of the Earth. Clearly, times are expanding, 165 Earth years are required to travel the entire orbit. If then the year of Neptune it is much longer than ours, so it does not happen for the duration of the day because this planet is able to make a rotation around its axis in only 16 hours and 7 minutes.

As with other large planets, Neptune also has to deal with a very intense magnetic field. As for Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus, even for Neptune we have to do with a system of rings but let's not delude ourselves that we are faced with a spectacle like the one offered by Saturn. The rings of Neptune are much less luminous, they are also very thin, which is why their existence has not been known for a long time, of which we have only come to know thanks toExploration of the planet carried out by Voyager.

If looked at with a telescope, the rings appear as small arcs placed on the sides of the planet, from the studies on space we know that they originated from the disintegration of some small satellite, with the same process that gave life to the rings of planets with rings like the ones already mentioned Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus.

From the rings we pass to the satellites. Neptune owns eight satellites but they are almost all of recent discovery, until a few years ago they could not be imagined, they were observed by Voyager 2 probe in 1989. Today we know that there are four of the eight satellites that orbit inside the rings, the largest is called Triton and is even equipped with an atmosphere mainly composed of methane and nitrogen.

Planet Neptune: temperature

As for the temperature we can flanking Neptune with Uranus even if the first is decidedly smaller than the second having in fact a mass only four times greater than that of the Earth. The two planets can be assimilated because they both have a rocky core, covered with icy material. It has been calculated that the temperature on Neptune also reaches 220 degrees below zero.

Planet Neptune: atmosphere

We talked about the atmosphere of Triton, satellite of Neptune, but not that of Neptune. Not yet, but we do it now. From this point of view, too, Neptune proves to be the "twin" planet of Uranus as it resembles it both in structure and appearance. Specifically, if we look at the atmospheres of these two planets, they are both blue due to theabundance of methane which absorbs the red radiation and reflects the blue one.

The atmosphere of the planet Neptune compared to that of Jupiter and Saturn it appears to be poorer in hydrogen and helium, but it is very rich and dense clouds. Moreover, very strong winds run through it, winds that can be considered the strongest in the entire Solar System as they blow at 2,000 km per hour!

Going to better observe theatmosphere of Neptune, in addition to its blue color you can see eddies similar to the Great Red Spot of Jupiter, the largest and most visible was called the Great Dark Spot, by assonance, perhaps, or perhaps because it is not so different from what we see on Jupiter.

We know that this Spot of Neptune was photographed in 1989 by the Voyager probe 2, but later, surprisingly, the Macchia was gone, when in 1994 the Hubble Space Telescope, in orbit around the Earth, photographed the planet.

This led us to think that it was an atmospheric vortex that dissolved after a few years, between 1989 and 1994. Today, however, we can still see dark-toned streaks that mark the surface of Neptune which are nothing but the shadow cast by the outermost clouds on those below.

Planet Neptune: curiosity

Neptune, the penultimate planet of the Solar System named after the god of the sea, was discovered when, in the last century, two astronomers, Adams from England and Le Verrier from France, they realized that the orbit of Uranus did not follow Kepler's three laws perfectly. Either the laws were wrong, or there was something that "disturbed", not expected, such as a "new" celestial body still unknown and located in vicinity of Uranus. To disturb its motion it had to have a large enough mass. Following this hypothesis, we came to see Neptune, with a telescope and the help of good calculations, in 1846.

Neptune in astrology

We all know that Neptune is the god of the sea, many know that his symbol is the trident, but then what? Let's find out in astrology what this planet means. It is an element that creates disorientation, confusion, illusion, insecurity. In everyday life it is able to make one miss clear vision of the situations experienced with consequent errors of judgment.

Neptune is "chaos", represents the inability to manage one's life in a practical and linear way but it is also considered the planet of artists and everything related to art. The sea is associated with it, but it is also the planet that protects hospitals and prisons, breweries, bars and, of course, all marine fauna.
