Think about the flavored waters as a summer trick to stay hydrated it is not wrong but it is an understatement. These are drinks that are useful and important 12 months out of 12, they can also be prepared at home according to personal tastes and seasonal fruit and vegetables. In winter there is no shortage of ingredients suitable for flavoring with taste.
Flavored waters: what they are
We can sympathetically define them as “a delicious fluid for hydrate yourself in a healthy way". They boom in summer and in general when it's hot because they are thirst-quenching and at the same time particularly tasty, comfortable and varied, on many occasions they replace water, that glass of water that too often we forget to drink even though we know it would make us well. With the flavored waters we want to hydrate ourselves more, because of their attractive taste and that we can choose as we please. They make water no longer "just water".
As already mentioned, for the benefit of our portfolio as well, the flavored waters they can be prepared very well at home with seasonal fruit and vegetables, adding fresh herbs and, why not, even spices if you like them. We can create a thousand different combinations depending on both our taste and our physical needs.
Flavored waters: what they are
There are dozens, if not hundreds, of them with all combinations of fruits and vegetables, spices and herbs, possible and imaginable. Let's see some that can be a starting point to create your own.
There is blackberry and pink grapefruit water, purifying and antioxidant, with a handful of blackberries and half a pink grapefruit in thin slices immersed in a liter of water left to stand for even a whole day. Water with this citrus fruit and it is interesting with lemon ginger, a classic that has a digestive and stimulating effect. It should be prepared with a two-centimeter piece of fresh ginger root, reduced to thin slices, and half an organic lemon, always placed in a liter of water that must be left in the refrigerator for at least half a day. Also based on lemon we can find two other flavored waters.
The first is with cucumber, dal strong anti-inflammatory and purifying effect. Just take a cucumber cut into thin slices, half a lemon squeezed and a liter of water to leave in the fridge only 4 hours before drinking. The other lemon water also features blueberries and it is refreshing and regenerating, definitely suitable for summer. To obtain it, take a handful of blueberries and a lemon cut into thin slices and put them in a liter of water to rest overnight in the refrigerator.
Let's move on to other interesting recipes, without lemon, but with other fruit. There is that apple and cinnamon, for the sweet tooth, excellent for detoxifying and burning fat. It is prepared with an apple, preferably Golden, a whole cinnamon stick and a liter of water. To create flavored waters vegetables can also be used and here is the one with carrots and celery, but also tanning purifying of the skin because it stimulates the production of melanin and protects the epidermis. Three carrots in thin slices and a stalk of celery are needed, obviously also a liter of water.
Pineapple and kiwi water is also summery but diuretic and detoxifying, known for being said to reduce cellulite by fighting water retention. Two slices of pineapple and a kiwi are needed to prepare it while 6 large whole strawberries and a mint leaf get a particularly flavored refreshing and fresh. You can also combine two typically summer and moisturizing fruits like watermelon and melon to create a drink to be flavored to taste with mint or lemon. Always summer, always refreshing but the water with peach and cherries is particularly aromatic, prepared with a single peeled peach cut into cubes together with some whole cherries.
Flavored waters: benefits
It is difficult to tell the benefits of flavored watersand not because there aren't any but because they depend a lot on the ingredients we choose from time to time. It is therefore up to us to decide what effect drinking them can have on us. There are moisturizing waters, rich in vitamins and minerals, that they can have detox effect on our body, or give us energizing support.
There are also recipes that go to stimulate the body metabolism and thus promote weight loss, but don't be fooled, a sip of water is not enough to lose weight and get back in shape. More effective are certain waters that fight water retention and purify us of toxins, helping digestion and improving vital functions thanks to the vitamins and mineral salts they contain.
Flavored waters: price
The flavored waters they usually cost a few euros per liter, but it's not just to save money that I recommend making them at home. It is easy, pleasant and allows you to vary a lot by choosing the taste of the moment and experimenting. About 200 grams of fruit or vegetables are needed for 1 liter of water. Pineapple, kiwi, peach, watermelon, melon, grape, mint, cinnamon, pear, apple, lemon, oranges, grapefruit, cherries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, cucumbers, ginger, celery, carrots, fennel are good, but not bananas . Get creative, the important thing is that the ingredients are fresh and in season and that they are carefully washed, even using bicarbonate.
If we want we can also add honey, agave juice or maple, or stevia, to sweeten them, although it would be better to leave them "nature".
