Skin mycoses, prevention, treatments and natural remedies

Cutaneous mycoses: these infections always lurk, but are not always contracted from the external environment. Here's what to do to avoid them and how to treat them!

Cutaneous mycoses are infections caused by dermatophyte fungi that develop in the skin; these infections affect any part of the body; more specifically, the keratinized layers of the epidermis and the skin appendages or hair, hair and nails (especially those of the feet). Skin mycoses must be treated promptly in order to prevent them from becoming chronic and expanding.

How to prevent cutaneous mycosis

To prevent the onset of cutaneous mycosis some precautions are necessary. It is also important to identify them in time and, above all, to understand what mycoses are, how they arise and how they manifest themselves. In any case it is good to consult a specialist to treat them properly!

  • After swimming, in the sea or in the pool, dry the skin thoroughly, especially in those areas where water tends to stagnate such as skin folds, armpits, groin, with a soft towel.
  • In the gym, pay attention to rubber mats or locker room benches: fungi and contagion can nest in their interstices; especially if the weather is hot and humid, it is very easy.
  • In the swimming pool. Do not walk around barefoot and, above all, do not sit on the tiles, let alone those on the edge of the tub. It is healthier to use deck chairs or sun loungers, but only by laying a towel over them, always placing it on the same side.
  • Public places. Not only in the pool, but also if you go to sports facilities, saunas, showers or in any case crowded public places, it is good to avoid contact between bare skin and all potentially infected surfaces by protecting yourself with slippers and towels.
  • Towels. Do not use any other towels, towels or shoes, even if they are friends or family.
  • At the Come Back. Always wash your slippers or clogs, swimsuits, jumpsuits and towels. It would be good to use linens, towels and sports clothing that can be washed in the washing machine at high temperatures (preferably above 60 °).

The skin micro-lesions put you at greater risk of contractingmycosis, warts and other contagious diseases. To prevent contagion in the pool or sauna, when you are barefoot, I recommend that you wear protective shoes.

Latex shoes can be bought in sports clothing stores or by taking advantage of online sales. On Amazon a pair of protective shoes can be bought at a price of about 8 euros with shipping costs included in the price. Remedies for cutaneous mycosis

Tea Tree Oil

This essential oil is one of the best known remedies in the treatment of cutaneous mycosis. In fact, it is an ingredient often found in natural and homemade cosmetic preparations designed to fight acne and dandruff, as well as in the treatment of candidiasis or cystitis. This oil in its pure version can irritate the skin, so we should avoid applying it directly to the mucous membrane or sensitive areas. We can also dilute it in coconut oil, which also has antifungal properties, although it is not as aggressive.

Essential oil of oregano

Another very effective essential oil thanks to its antibiotic and antifungal properties is that extracted from the aromatic plant of oregano. It is usually a remedy particularly suitable for oral use, always if stated on the product label.

We can combine it with tea tree essential oil or ingest it to enhance the treatment from within. In this case, we will take a drop of this oil diluted with a teaspoon of oil or honey, three times a day.

Ginger

Ginger is a widely used remedy to combat various ailments. Even against mycoses it is of great help for its effectiveness against bacteria and fungi, without causing unwanted effects. You can directly apply the ginger powder to the affected area or its essential oil.

Propolis

Propolis is among the best natural antibiotics in the treatment of any type of infection thanks to its many beneficial properties. We can use propolis orally or for topical use.

  • For topical use, just apply the product directly on the affected area. Make sure it's alcohol-free propolis.
  • Orally, just take 5 drops morning and evening for at least 10 days. For preventive purposes, you can take 5 drops in the morning on an empty stomach, once a week. In this case it is always good to consult a doctor!

Cinnamon from Ceylon

Cinnamon is an indispensable ally in the treatment of many skin problems. Niacin, thiamine and ascorbic acid, substances contained in it, make it a powerful antifungal.

We can use cinnamon essential oil with a bath, as well as for ginger. We can also combine the two spices to enhance their healing effects. Make sure the cinnamon is Ceylon first.

Garlic

Garlic cannot be missing among the remedies against cutaneous mycosis, thanks to its strong antibacterial and antifungal action. We can also associate its topical application with raw consumption. If taking it is difficult for us, we can resort to garlic oil tablets. They are readily available in herbal medicine.
