Ear infection: symptoms and causes. Useful recommendations and what measures to take to prevent and treat this disorder.
Hearing is a truly vital sense, which can also affect our way of relating to others. The ears must be protected and therefore at the first symptoms of discomfort or pain it is good to go to the doctor, to avoid that a simple ear infection can turn into a chronic disease
Ear infection, symptoms
Generally, earache is the most debilitating symptom. However, other symptoms may occur such as:
- Difficulty speaking and swallowing
- Difficulty in expressing a concept
- Poor balance
- Little attention
When the pain persists for more than three months, it is called a chronic disorder. Ear infection may be related to the obstruction of the Eustachian tube; the causes can be caused by:

To understand what is the most appropriate treatment and the causes that triggered the ear infection, go to the specialist; among the possible treatments are:
- Dry mopping, i.e. hygienic bath
- Pain relievers and antipyretics
The best cure for ear infections is always prevention, which consists of:
- Avoid cigarette smoking, even passive smoking can cause inflammation of the Eustachian tubes
- Do not use ear cleaning sticks. They can damage the structure of the ear canal or worse, push the earwax even deeper, disrupting the natural cleaning mechanism
- Wash your hands regularly even if they appear clean if you want to prevent viruses and bacteria from reaching your ears.
Ear infection, remedies
As already mentioned, at the first symptoms it is good to contact your doctor; an infection always requires antibiotic treatment! In the meantime, we want to suggest some indications for alleviating the symptoms of the infection.
Hot packs help relieve the pain caused by otitis. Sufferers know how debilitating pain can be!
Just dip a cloth in hot water, squeeze it well and place it on your ear.
After a few minutes the pain should subside.
- Heat half a tablespoon of olive oil and dip it in a cotton ball. Place at the entrance to the ear and leave to act for an hour.
- Heat a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and add a little minced garlic. Allow to cool then dip the solution into a cotton swab. Place in the orifice of the ear for at least 10 minutes
- In a glass container pour 2 tablespoons of olive oil and the contents of a capsule of vitamin E. Add two cloves of minced garlic and mix everything until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Close the container and heat in a water bath for one minute. Once it has cooled, filter the mixture and apply a few drops in the ear.
- Heat two tablespoons of almond oil and allow to cool to room temperature. Apply two drops of the oil in the ear canal and cover with a cotton ball to protect it
- Leave ten chamomile flowers to macerate in four tablespoons of olive oil for a couple of days. Dip a cotton swab in the solution then apply to the ear.
- Chop a few basil leaves and a handful of plantain leaves. Seal the ingredients in gauze and heat in the microwave. Allow to cool then apply the gauze on the ear
- Cut an onion into slices, chop well then transfer the ingredient to a cloth and heat in the microwave. Apply the pack on the ear.
- Boil two tablespoons of absinthe in a liter of water for about 5 minutes. Allow to cool then bring your ear to the container to let the steam enter.
- Boil half a cup of water with a handful of coarse salt. Dip a cloth, wring out and apply to the ear
- Boil a handful of oregano leaves and half a cup of water for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Filter the water and transfer the solution into a dropper. Apply three drops in the ear
- Pour two tablespoons of rue in half a cup of boiling water. Cover and let cool. Dip a cotton ball into it and apply to the ear.
