Natural pesticides for plants: how to protect the vegetable garden with natural pesticides ready for use or homemade, natural remedies within everyone's reach to eliminate plant parasites.
The plants, the flowers, the turf, the flower beds, the entire vegetable garden ... often become prey to the plant parasites, which seriously damage our vegetable garden or garden. To prevent this from happening, there are natural pesticides harmless to the environment and to humans. In fact, nature helps us a lot: garlic, horsetail, nettle ... and many other natural ingredients can become powerful pesticides for plants. Below we will show you some natural remedies to be used for the care of the organic garden.
Natural pesticides for the vegetable garden and the garden: macerates, decoctions and infusions
The natural elements we need for the pesticide can be prepared in the form of macerate, decoction or infusion.
To prepare a macerate it is necessary to mince the element (garlic, nettle or horsetail recommended) to put it in a plastic container filled with water exposed for a few days in the open air, avoiding filling the container up to on the edge.
The container must be covered with a net: it serves to protect the contents while allowing the air to pass through. It is preferable to place the container in the sun for about 20 days and mix well every day. For a good preservation of the macerate, after waiting, the container must be closed with a lid. At the time of use it will be sufficient to pour it into a bottle with a spray dispenser, spreading it evenly on the plants to be treated.
Among the most used macerates we can mention that of garlic, an effective antibacterial that can fight mold and fungi. The nettle macerate, on the other hand, is used extensively in the vegetable garden to combat parasites.
The nettle-based macerate procedure involves other steps: the nettle must soak in cold water until the liquid becomes very dark and there is no more foam. the fermentation time is up to ten days. Horsetail macerate is very suitable for both parasites and fungal diseases. It also strengthens the plant's immune defenses and stimulates its growth.
Horsetail can be macerated together with nettle: it greatly enhances its antifungal action.
To make the infusion, simply pour boiling water over the herbs to be used, letting it rest for a couple of hours before filtering it.
To make the decoction, the herbs must be soaked in cold water for at least a day, then boiled over low heat for a short time. Also in this case, it will finally be necessary to filter.
Natural pesticide based on garlic
On which parasites is the garlic-based pesticide effective and above all, how is it prepared? All information on using garlic to protect the garden from parasites is available in the article dedicated togarlic as a pesticide.
Natural pesticides: sodium bicarbonate
Other natural pesticide is sodium bicarbonate, very effective against fungal diseases. To use it, simply dilute a teaspoon of product in a liter of water and apply the mixture obtained on the plants.
Preventive methods can also be used, favoring the proliferation of useful insects such as ladybugs, earthworms, bees and dragonflies that are able to fight the invasion of harmful insects against the vegetable garden and garden.
Natural pesticides for plants
Not everyone knows this but… soap is a valuable aid innatural garden care: it's aremedyalso admitted inbiological agriculture.
The soap performs an excellent action "insecticide" but only when it comes into contact with insects. Soap is goodnatural insecticideas it closes the tracheae of insects thus preventing the entry of air into the insects' organism.
Unfortunately, however, it is anatural insecticidebroad spectrum, affects both iparasitesthat the so-called good insects such as pollinators (bees, bumblebees, butterflies, ladybird larvae ...) but also harmful insects for the garden such as tingids and psylla.
Since it is apesticide for plantsbroad spectrum, we advise you to use it only in conjunction with the infestation. The treatment must be repeated every day in case of severe infestations and, every other day, in case of moderate infestations. The action of the soap, in fact, is limited to the treatment and has a low persistence.
The soap is especially recommended for anyone who is looking for anatural pesticide against aphids: not only eliminates aphids but also has an effectcleaningeliminating thehoneydew so as to ward off ants and prevent the development offumaggine.
How to do?
We advise against using Marseille soap or dish soap as they can remain in the soil and cause future toxicity problems. Use biodegradable soaps (there are many lines you can find at the supermarket… even for doing laundry!). If you want something specific, agricultural emporiums can provide specially formulated soft soap.
Natural insecticide for the garden: pyrethrum
The pyrethrum, before being a natural pesticide, it's a plant! Its active ingredient, pyrethrin, is very effective in counteracting most of the garden and vegetable pests but it is not free from limits: these molecules are photosensitive, so the treatments must be performed in the late afternoon, when the action of the sun can no longer deactivate the active molecules of this natural insecticide. This natural remedy is widely used in organic farming, in particular, it is effective against:
2. crop bugs and green bed bugs
4. myrides as the vector of the potato mosaic virus
6. white fly
7. aphids and other plant lice
9. common fly and mosquitoes
10. plant lice or aphids
There are several pyrethrum-based insecticides on the market, they can be purchased in the form of powder, spray or concentrated liquid solution, to be diluted with water before use. L'natural insecticide pyrethrum-based can be purchased at specialized garden centers or can be purchased online: a package of Solabiol Piretro Actigreen Bio is offered on Amazon at a price of € 19.90 with free shipping.
