If the answer is no ... we are here to remedy this small gap, trying to offer you some indications to be able to make perfect hard-boiled eggs in the microwave.
First, a little reassurance. To prepare hard-boiled eggs in the microwave it is not at all essential to have a microwave oven of the latest generation, very expensive and hyper-technological. In fact, any common microwave is enough that, to be clear, can at least bring the water to a boil.
Hard-boiled eggs in the microwave: what you need
That said, to be able to prepare hard-boiled eggs in the microwave you need very few ingredients:
- an egg (or the number of eggs you want to microwave!);
- boiling water;
- salt and pepper as required (and what your preferences suggest!)
- a container
Once this is done, let's try to understand step by step how cook hard-boiled eggs in the microwave without destroying them.
The first step you need to take is to get hot, boiling water. Get a bowl that is suitable for microwave cooking. Do not underestimate this aspect, because putting accessories in the microwave that are not suitable for this type of cooking is very dangerous! Fill the bowl with water. But how much?
Avoid filling the bowl to the brim, considering that you will then have to insert at least one egg which, with its volume, will make you run the risk of overflowing.
How to make a hard-boiled egg in the microwave
Once you have filled the bowl with water, put it in the microwave and establish a fairly high power, then waiting for the water to boil. Once you have also overcome this small rock, gently dip the eggs and cover the bowl with a plate. Does it seem easy to you?
Well, it is never pay close attention to how dip the eggs into boiling water, because too rapid thermal shock could cause the egg to explode! We therefore recommend that you:
- keep the eggs to cook in the microwave at room temperature
- gently dip the egg into the bowl, avoiding "throwing" it too decisively, because doing so will increase the risk of explosions;
- do the whole immersion operation by equipping yourself with a kitchen glove, so that even any accidents along the way cannot lead to too much trouble on your health.
Now, place the bowl that contains not only the hot water, but also the egg, in the microwave. To do this, cover everything with a plate (it is a fundamental step) and set the oven at 500 watts for about 8 minutes.
Cooking times for hard-boiled eggs in the microwave
Boiled egg cooking time is always difficult to calculate. In the case of microwave cooking, even the power is not so easy to estimate: it depends on how much water you use and the number of eggs.
In this context, therefore, keep in mind that there are no precise rules for the necessary cooking time, and that therefore the 8 minutes could be insufficient or, perhaps, overabundant.
Also consider that much will depend not only on the water, the microwave power and the cooking methods with your oven ... but also on your tastes!
For example, some people love boiled egg with soft yolk, and therefore they should try to reduce the number of minutes, perhaps even to 6-7. On the other hand, there are people who want the yolk to be completely cooked too: in this case, in essence, the cooking time will have to be extended and, in some cases, not even 10 minutes will be enough!
Whatever your choice, therefore, remember to experiment in order to achieve perfect cooking. For example, you can repeat the same procedures with two different eggs, perhaps setting a cooking time of 7 minutes for the first, and a cooking time of 10 minutes for the second.
Then see which of the two solutions you think is closest to your wishes. If neither of them satisfies you, because you would like to opt for something in between, you can set the cooking of a third egg at 8 or 9 minutes, until - in other words - you reach the definition of the ideal cooking.
Once you have finally figured out the right cooking time, you can take the eggs and place them in a bowl filled with cold water. In this way you will have finished preparing hard-boiled eggs in the microwave, thus being able to use this first part of our instructions for preparing hundreds of useful and delicious recipes.
