How to eliminate the air from radiators: instructions for venting the radiators by eliminating any air bubbles. How to bleed the air from the radiators, the guide step by step.
We should not be surprised if, once the cold season has arrived, we try to turn on the radiators and the boiler does not start or if the boilerpart but iradiators only heat up halfway.
THEsymptomsgodsradiators not ventedthey seenoises coming from the radiator circuit, hissing, showers or radiators that only partially heat up.
In the article "what to do if the radiators do not heat "we have already assumed the presence of air in the radiator circuit. On this page we will focus on home heating and on how to bleed the radiators eliminating the air bubbles present in the circuit.
How to eliminate the air from radiators
The air, in the heating system, does not allow the delivery of homogeneous heat in the highest area of the radiator. In some cases, it can be understood that it is necessary bleed the radiators by an annoying noise caused by falling water. Six radiators are noisy, probably it is a bad circulation of water with a consequent bad propagation of heat.
How to eliminate the air from radiators? First, turn off the boiler by turning the boiler activation button to the “OFF” position. Wait an hour and ...vent the radiatorsfollowing this guide!
How to eliminate the air from radiators
In this guide, we will seehow to bleed the radiatorsin a few simple steps, plus an in-depth paragraph dedicated topurge valve.
How to increase the boiler pressure
Look at the boiler, on the front panel you should see the pressure gauge that shows the system pressure. Immediately below the pressure gauge there should be a tap connecting theradiatorsto the plumbing system.
This tap is used to introduce water into the system. Turn on the tap and wait for the gauge pointer to rise until it stabilizes. The pressure must not exceed 2.5 BAR. Usually, the pressure gauge has two hands, one with the temperature (indicated by the ° C symbol) and one for the pressure (indicated by the unit of measurement Bar). The hand of the bars must not enter the areas indicated with the red line but must not stay eitherto the ground. Too low a pressure will make the work ofbleeding the radiators.
After seeing how to adjust the boiler pressure (fundamental step foreliminate the air from the radiators), let's move on to the real action and move to the rooms where the radiators (radiators) are placed. Take a fairly large container (a pan of milk or a two-liter jug of water will do) and startbleed the radiatorcloser to the boiler.
How to bleed the radiators
On the radiator you can see two "valves "on the sides and a holder at the bottom left.
What interests you is the vent valve which is usually the one on the right (the metal one without sleeve, not the white one or thermostatic valve). The vent valve of the radiators is the one located on the side opposite the opening-closing valve of the radiator.
Turn the valve and let the air and water out, until the water jet becomes constant. Repeat this operation on all radiators starting withheatercloser to the boiler.
How to open the vent valve of the radiators
Generally, when installing the heaters, the installer leaves you some keyssuitable foropen and close the vent valveradiators ... however not everyone keeps them! If the installer is not clear, it happens that the landlord underestimates its usefulness and ends up losing it. No fear.
If you don't have thekeyto open thevent valve, we advise you to buy it. A key costs a few euros, has universal measures and is easy to find. The breather valve has a diameter of 5 mm and the key has a square section. If you have a key at home like the one shown in the image below, all you have to do is use it, otherwise it is better to buy it.
If you really don't want to buy the key to open the vent valve, you could force your hand andremove the air from the radiatorsusing pliers, however, you risk damaging the valve itself and causing leaks. Is it really worth taking the risk? For a few euros ?!If the boiler often loses pressure or the radiators are leaking, it is probably because you have forced your hand on the vent valve.
If you don't know where to get onewrench for breather valve, you just need to go to a plumbing and heating shop or take advantage of the online purchase. On Amazon, a pair of keys to open and tightenthermostatic radiator valvesyou buy at a price of 3.64 euros and free shipping.
For all information, please refer to the product page:key for radiator valves.
Using the appropriate key, open the vent valve and close it only when the water flow becomes constant. Collect the water in a saucepan.
Close the boiler cock (the one you opened previously) and restore the pressure to a bar by acting on the vent valve of one of the radiators.
Turn on the boiler and check that allradiatorsheat evenly, paying particular attention to the upper part. If the radiators still do not heat in the upper part of the radiator, repeat the operation againvent.
Reactivate the boiler and check that the radiators heat evenly.
This guide is valid foreliminate the air from the radiatorsof a house or apartment of any size. In case of an apartment building with heating centralized, it will be necessarybleed the radiators but do not regulate the pressure. Thecentral heating boilerthey recharge automatically, returning to pressure in full autonomy.
In the event of problems or uneven heating of the radiators, contact the building administrator who will request appropriate technical assistance.
